Size of Black Holes through Polymer Scaling
نویسنده
چکیده
We imagine the strings on the strectched horizon of any d space-time dimensional black hole to be bits of polymer. Then, proposing an interaction between these bits we obtain the size of the configuration, and thus of the black hole, using the scaling laws. The transition from a typical black hole state to a typical string state has a simple explanation, which also holds for the extremal black holes.

Accretion-induced variability links young stellar objects, white dwarfs, and black holes
The central engines of disc-accreting stellar-mass black holes appear to be scaled down versions of the supermassive black holes that power active galactic nuclei. However, if the physics of accretion is universal, it should also be possible to extend this scaling to other types of accreting systems, irrespective of accretor mass, size, or type. We examine new observations, obtained with Kepler...
متن کاملOpen-Hole Size and Thermal Cycling Effects on Mass Loss and Surface Degradation of Polymer Matrix Composites
Degradation is a common problem for polymer matrix composites (PMCs) under low thermal cycling conditions. This paper investigates the effects of low thermal cycling on total mass loss (TML) and surface degradation of PMCs. Unnotched and open-hole specimens were weighed before and after low thermal cycling. The total mass loss and surface degradation of the specimens were studied over 250 cycle...
متن کاملBlack Hole Thermalization, D0 Brane Dynamics, and Emergent Spacetime
When matter falls past the horizon of a large black hole, the expectation from string theory is that the configuration thermalizes and the information in the probe is rather quickly scrambled away. The traditional view of a classical unique spacetime near a black hole horizon conflicts with this picture. The question then arises as to what spacetime does the probe actually see as it crosses a h...
متن کاملHow big can a black hole grow?
I show that there is a physical limit to the mass of a black hole, above which it cannot grow through luminous accretion of gas, and so cannot appear as a quasar or active galactic nucleus (AGN). The limit is Mmax 5× 1010 M for typical parameters, but can reach Mmax 2.7× 1011 M in extreme cases (e.g. maximal prograde spin). The largest black hole masses so far found are close to but below the l...
متن کاملSemi-classical black holes with large N re-scaling and information loss problem
We consider semi-classical solutions of black holes and related re-scalings with large N massless fields to study the information loss problem. For a given semi-classical metric solution of a N = 1 universe, we can find another solution of a large N universe by using re-scaling. Here, after the re-scaling, any curvature quantity takes a sufficiently small value without changing its causal struc...
